Just a few months ago I couldn’t breathe in this dress. Now look at me. I can take nice shallow breaths without popping a seam.
Did I tell you I was working on a second edition of my memoir?
No?
I should have.
I’ve been working on a second edition of my memoir. There. I told you.
It’s smaller and better than the first edition. It’s just as funny, only without all the mistakes (or a lot fewer mistakes). I’m done with that Buddhist humility, showing-I’m-human thing. There’s got to be such a thing as Buddhist dignity. If not, I’m making it up. Who’s gonna know? The monk police are busy finding peaceful solutions to other, more pressing matters.
I had to release a new edition to reflect:
1. the literary award I received
2. the wondifluous comments readers made about the book after actually reading it
3. changes that made the book better (I deleted one chapter and merged two, converted a few of the many lists to paragraphs, things like that).
There’s no new material in the book, only some minor rewording of the former material in some spots.
I also changed the look of the book, front and back (for the paperback version). You know how it is, when you get slimmer, you need a new wardrobe and a new look.
Now for the really BIG NEWS…
On Feb. 16, I celebrate 30 years of SOBRIETY.

This could have been me, but I saw the butt stains on the grill 30 years ago and said, “No way, compadre!”
I timed this second edition to come out for this grand and glorificated occasion.
In honor of this milestone and to thank the readers who bought the first edition of my memoir, I’m running a 3 DAY FREE promotion of the 2nd edition. Oh heck, in honor of Valentine’s Day, too–remember the Saint Valentine’s Day Meatloaf Massacre?
From 2/14-2/16, you can download a FREE copy of How Was I Supposed to Know, (2nd Ed.).
Tell everyone you know. After the 16th, it will be $3.99 American and something else in other forms of currency. The book is ONLY available via Amazon this time. But I’m told there are Kindle aps for just about everything.
Click Here for your FREE copy.
For readers around the globe, here are your links:
I’m still working on the CreateSpace (paperback) version of the second edition. I don’t know if I can offer it free because of the cost to Amazon of printing it. But maybe they have a coupon program or something for those of you who still prefer to hold a real book.
I’ll keep you posted…

I sure would appreciate a review, Doris! And that your friend in Italy is interested is very exciting–I like that my little story is going international!

Guess what one of my friends wanted your book, he is writer form Italy and the time difference did not let him get it, he was not happy lol. I like the fact he was interested in your work.

You’re doing amazingly well, my friend. Everything was spelled and punctuated correctly… Feel better, Lorna.
Feb 15, 2014 @ 19:07:21
Congratulations on the 30 years, Lorna! Massive achievement. Love the look of your second edition. Best wishes for the surgery and recovery. xxx
Feb 15, 2014 @ 16:49:05
I’ve taken my first crack at editing it and am up to chapter 10 or about 25 chapters. I have to hold off until I don’t need the oxy-feel-good meds to continue. I’m determined to get it at or below 100,000 words. Right now it stands at a bit over 102,000. Thanks for asking!
Feb 15, 2014 @ 16:45:46
I did have surgery and am full of painkillers right now. Do you know how hard it is to type coherently when woozy on drugs? 😐
Feb 15, 2014 @ 16:44:11
Well, at least you have a choice! 🙂
Feb 15, 2014 @ 16:43:41
Thanks, Sara!

Thanks, Peter. Your support helps me in ways so important to me!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:17:15
Yes, grab one for free! I have just included different links for various countries around the world. So got back to the post and see which one suits you best. And it’s a 3 day give-away.
No not over the mystery illness. I just wanted to meet this deadline before I have surgery (which might be as soon as the Friday (2/14). Thanks for your concern and I hope you enjoy the book.
Oh, and go vote for yourself on Blogher!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:17:08
Thanks for the tagging thing. That’s really nice of you. More importantly, you will be in my thoughts on Friday. Very best of luck with everything, and here is a salute to your constant courage and good humour in the face of difficulties
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:13:48
There will always be something (or some several somethings). But we do the best we can! Fair warning, I’m tagging you for a WP author promotional thing. I got tagged and need to tag 3 authors about to release books to help with their promotion. You have to tag 3 others (or not). The best part is that you get some good publicity for your book.
I may be undergoing surgery on Friday (don’t know yet). So I’m not sure when the tag post is coming. Just be prepared, Okay?
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:09:54
KDP is Kindle Direct Publishing. Sorry! Check out the post again, I have included the link for the UK. You should have access to the free copy now with no problem.
Laughter is good for the soul and the body! Heal well my friend!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:04:26
Well done on the sobriety: I know that is one hell of an achievement. Needles to say I cannot see your Blog without wondering how you are. I hope you are feeling better. As for editing books. It’s a nightmare isn’t it. My soon to be published tome has been edited twice by a professional, as well as by me, but I managed to slide it under the eye of some pedant, he came up with about another 12 errors just before the printer hit the button. I suppose I will just have to hope they are all gone now. The errors I mean !
Feb 12, 2014 @ 06:04:26
PS, excuse my ignorance what is KDP? I have an idea but not sure.
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:56:10
I think it would be a great remedy/tonic to enable me to get there.. 😉 I look forward to it….
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:39:40
I’m so please to see you here more often… are we over the sickies now.??
You’re giving your book away for two whole days… I’ll be grabbing a copy that’s for sure… at our present exchange rate rand to dollar $5.99 is a whole weeks cigarettes… I so enjoy your posts… I’m privileged to know an award winning author…
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:35:48
I have to, George. The alternative is unthinkable! 😉
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:35:13
It is, but a well-written and laugh-out-loud kind of insane! 🙂
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:34:31
I searched Google images for “Old drunk woman” and that one came up. I think she fell on to the car–at least that’s what I hope!!!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:33:28
Since it’s available through KDP Select, it’s open to all markets. I know people in the UK bought the 1st edition. I’ll investigate if there is a special link for people in countries other than the US…When you get it, don’t laugh too hard–wouldn’t want to set back your recovery!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:30:49
Yes, quite! And it only gets better! 🙂
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:12:30
I read the sample on Amazon. Quite delightful. Electrifying, in parts!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 05:01:19
I will definitely have a look, but last time I tried to get a download it was not available in UK. But not to worry otherwise, I still love to read your posts lightens my day, especially now. I hope that classic car was not damaged. heehee! Thanks.
Feb 12, 2014 @ 03:54:10
Congratulations!
I’m horrified by that terribly graphic picture of the poor lass in red getting splatted by a car!
Feb 12, 2014 @ 03:33:29
Congratulations….sounds insane:)
Feb 12, 2014 @ 02:16:15
Congratulations on both successes, Lorna. You may have been ill, but you kept your funny going just fine! 😉
