Daily Prompt: Happily Ever After
“And they lived happily ever after.” Think about this line for a few minutes. Are you living happily ever after? If not, what will it take for you to get there?
I don’t know what the future holds for me, so I can’t say that the contentment I feel with my life today will be an “ever after” thing. Having looked back on my life, I learned to count on only one thing for sure: change. Although I do tend to focus on the positive, no matter what. So maybe I will live happily ever after even when my circumstances change–it’s just they way I’m wired.

I see Lorna’s life changing more than most people change their underpants, but she seems to adjust and be happy. Is something wrong with her or does my crystal ball need some Windex?
But looking at this picture of the dog I often call “Happy Scrappy,” I’m tempted to answer that he definitely is living his “happily ever after.”
You see, I rescued him when he was about 3 years old. He was abandoned with another dog in his former owner’s yard. They moved and just left the two dogs in the yard. After several days, a neighbor called Animal Control and he was brought to a shelter.

The little ruffian when I first met him at the shelter. For being abused and abandoned, he looks pretty happy. I think we were meant to find each other.
I found him on Pet Finder, an online resource to connect people with animal companions in need of a good home. When Scrappy came to me, he was the opposite of “happy.” He was distrustful, ornery, cantankerous, and prone to running away. Simply put, he “vanted to be left alone.” After months of patience and love, he began to trust me. 8 years later, he still can be moody and if he catches a scent, he’s off like a terrier after a rabbit (which he probably is). But, generally speaking, he found his Fairy Tail ending with me.

I agree there… maybe the statement of “and they lived happily thereafter” is ones life after death…??

True. But I’ve only heard it at the end of a story that is meant to go forward, so that’s how I was thinking about it.
And who know, death may not be the end… 😉

Aw, Thanks! He is. Even though he’s 11 years old, he still has that youthful look about him.

Not at all. His not-so-cute-disposition early on made it all the sweeter when he finally gave in and trusted me. 🙂

I love the story of how the two of you were brought together…a perfect match. You can’t blame him for being a bit ornery and cantankerous can you?

The fairy tailed “ever after” can only be used in retrospect of someones life… we all live for today.. well I do.. and would never be content till the end.. so a description of my life after I’m gone can be given and then he lived happily ever after…

As a matter of fact, I just posted a link of that blog post on my facebook page. Scrappy doesn’t have his own page. The competition for my lap top would be too contentious between us. Please extend my apologies to Princess Bella and Queenie, too!

Princess Bella walked in the room as I was reading this. Now I can’t keep her quiet! She wants to know if he’s on Facebook?
