Welcome back to this weekly (as opposed to weakly) attempt to “Occupy the Blog-o-Sphere” each Thursday. I offer this hopefully uplifting message to brighten your day and bring something buoyant into your life. As you move through your day with a renewed outlook, may you pass it along.
There are so many rules in life. They can become confusing and even oppressive.
I like simple, so I try to follow one simple “rule” every day. Treat others as you wish to be treated. You may know this as “The Golden Rule.”
As in every rule, there will be exceptions, but I think this one simple rule works pretty well.
Let’s think about how we like to be treated and extend the same treatment to our neighbors, near and far, no matter what form of life they represent.

SO true. Sometimes the most simple principles are the most complex to implement.
Nov 06, 2012 @ 17:55:28
Simple is the only way to go…and the Golden Rule is difficult enough all by itself!
Nov 02, 2012 @ 12:34:51
You sound just like my Phil. I agree completely with both of you. 😉
Nov 02, 2012 @ 11:06:09
Okay, let’s be honest, a lot of bad can be good if it’s with the right person, and the person that makes you feel warm inside.

yes, indeed, mi amiga – Buddist

Yes, and I apply it to animals as well as people. I wish more people would…
Nov 02, 2012 @ 08:56:36
I love it, “A little bad is good.” I think that will be my motto (at least for today)! 🙂
Nov 02, 2012 @ 08:55:37
I suppose no matter what we are trying to do, our egos get in the way. Living the principles of Buddhism highlight that for me every day! 🙂 Awareness is humbling…

One of the first proverbs I remember from catholic school. We had to memorieze it. I think it was first grade. It has always been one I’ve tried to follow. It is so simple and yet truly huge when trying to accomplish. Our ego’s and our own wants sometimes get in the way. Nice reminder for the Occupy Thursday ….

I agree. A little bad is good. 🙂 And Gandhi is the man!
Nov 01, 2012 @ 21:42:12
Now that has always been a “rule” I could live with..thanks Lorna!!
Nov 01, 2012 @ 17:00:15
I love Gandhi’s words and how he lived his life.
There is abundant beauty and kindness in this world. There is the other, too. We actually need both. How would we know one without the other? Striving for balance is the best we can do.

“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” ~ Gandhi
I like to think there is some beauty in the world through the actions, words and eyes of people. I know I’ve always found a darker place in me. Over the years I’ve learned to keep it just deep enough inside so I can be happier with what has come my way, and what i have brought my way.
I took a quick look at the link. I will have to give it more attention when I am less at work and more at home. A blog with that much purpose deserves more than a once over. :^)

As long as you’re laughing, Peter, it doesn’t matter why! 🙂
Nov 01, 2012 @ 12:39:30
He has a way of doing that. 🙂
Nov 01, 2012 @ 12:20:13
Phil said it all.
Nov 01, 2012 @ 12:03:06
I’m still smiling at the weekly/ weakly thing. I think my sense of humour is falling apart and I’m now starting to laugh like an eight year old. Not saying it wasn’t an amusing pun but my laughter was fairly extensive. Anyway, never mind all that. I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment. It would change the world if we all followed it
Nov 01, 2012 @ 11:01:24
Yes. It’s about living each moment consciously. And that is very difficult to do in this fast-paced world. But, oh, when we can manage to do live that way, the feeling is boundless and beautiful. 🙂
Nov 01, 2012 @ 09:01:31
Simple is good. Simple is elegant. And oftentimes, simple is difficult. Thanks for the reminder. The whole golden rule is one of thoughtful action, not a knee-jerk emotional reaction to whatever encounters we have in our daily lives.
Nov 01, 2012 @ 08:45:55
I have found that those “difficult” people are our best teachers. We pay attention to the challenges in life. 😉
Nov 01, 2012 @ 08:41:03
Let’s keep those good thoughts going, Hope!
Nov 01, 2012 @ 08:40:22
I would think that this rule goes without saying, but I see too often (especially these days with our election coming down to the wire) some heavy duty mud slinging. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want mud or the animus that projects it whipped at me. Now, a nice relaxing mud bath at a spa…that’s a different story. 😉
Nov 01, 2012 @ 08:12:04
Lorna, one would have thought that “the golden rule” goes without saying. I expect nothing else from myself and others. You can tell can’t you: No wife- and dog beaters in my circle.

Good thoughts Lorna, thank you.
Nov 01, 2012 @ 01:47:04
Yes I like this and one I try to follow everyday… although some people make it very difficult…
