When does “no” mean “Gee, thanks?” When it comes to the proliferation of different and same blogging awards for which I am continually nominated, that’s when.
Each person who nominated me had the best of intentions–they adore and admire my blog (I know because they said so when they nominated me–and I believe everything I read).

I believe the alien baby adoption. I mean, she's all about inclusiveness and family. But look at her hair. That seems a little fake, don't you think?
I’m the type person who has a hard time either ignoring or rejecting people’s kind gestures. They know because I exude that helpful, generous, optimistic, easy-going vibe often confused with people who are easily duped into every scam in the book. I even feel guilty writing this. Classic woos emotion–guilt when speaking the truth.
In the last several weeks, I’ve been nominated for a couple more Kreativ Blogger Awards by The Idiot (Mark) Speaketh and Kourtney Heintz. I politely (as best I could) turned them down because I already have that award and more is just not better when it comes to this kind of thing (as opposed to watermelon or hugs, preferably not at the same time).
I was, however, nominated for three awards that don’t currently decorate my sidebar–all of them quite flattering and lovely. What’s a blogger to do? I’m hoping that, by posting the images of these awards on my site, others bloggers in the nomination business will see them and say, “Golly, Lorna already has this award. Good for her. I should pick a blogger that doesn’t have this award and really make her/his day. Yup! That’s what I’m going to do.” That hasn’t worked out quite so well for me yet, but I’m a blogger filled to the brim with delusions…hope.
Kourtney Heintz also nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blog Award. Personally, I think the logo could be a bit more inspiring, but that’s just me. Thanks Kourtney, for recognizing my blog as one that inspires you to do or think something, well, inspirational. I hope it’s “good” inspirational (like Gandhi or Miss America) and not “bad” inspirational (like Dexter or [insert politician of your choice, not necessarily one who will get your vote]).
NOTE: I’m selecting blogs I haven’t highlighted before to give my loyal readers someone new to explore.
I pass on this award to the following blogger, who inspire me in a non-Dexter way:
Teri of the Narcissist’s Blog nominated me for the ABC, or Awesome Blog Content, Award. How could I turn this one down? Just look at it! Flattery like that will get me every time. Here are the bloggers who I want to pass this little gem onto:
The Life and Times of Nathan Badley
Now there’s one happy-looking award! Thanks, Jeanna, from Xanax or Running Shoes, for nominating me for this zippy little do-da. It’s the 7 X 7 Award. Who among my many Blogger Buddies have 7 posts that are so star-spangled colorful that they want to tell the blog-o-sphere about them? I know lots, but I’m trying to list bloggers new to most of you (which, by the way, is getting harder). I’m thinking I need to expand my circle of friends…
General Rules:
- Notify nominees that they’ve been nominated so they can prepare themselves for the
incredible amount of work…great feelings that the award bestows upon them. - Thank the blogger who gave you the award and link back to her/his site.
- Provide links to the nominated blogs.
- Increase your Award Deflector Shields to MAXIMUM POWER

And you thought I was making this up. No one can see you coming when the shield are set on Max (unless you have night vision goggles or can see that globby thingy on the roof).
.
Rules for the first two awards:
- nominate as many bloggers as you wish. The range can run from 0-57. Error on the side of “less is more” for your own sanity.
- Reveal somewhere between 0 and 10 heretofore unknown and beguiling facts about yourself.
Rules for the last award:
- Name and link back to 7 of your favorite posts so readers may or may not read your best and brightest posts.
- Name and link seven other bloggers you wish to give the award to.
- Reveal nothing about anything or anyone else.
Because this post is long enough, I will save my beguiling personal facts and reveal my top 7 posts in a follow-up post tomorrow, which happens to be National Toothache Day.

Good luck to you. Sure sound like you have a full plate and the plate just got bigger and fuller. I’ll miss you. But I’ll still be here. I may have to cut back, too. My manuscript will need lots of my attention and keeping up with the blog is just too time-comsuming these days.
I’ll treasure the rare moments we have in the future!
Feb 09, 2012 @ 14:08:13
Thanks for the award. I think I might write a special blog that will reveal unknown things about myself. Of course they may be funny and unusual. Sorry I haven’t been around as much. Things will be getting worse. I may even have trouble posting more than once a week. A job opportunity came up that is best for our family at this time, so I’m going to take it. My wife will be able to go parttime, and finish school without killing herself. I start on the 21st, and will be working at least fifty hours a week. Along with getting my book out, and writing my next one, it will be hectic for a while. I’ll try to stop in, because, I’ve really injoyed your sense of humor, and your take on life. Talk to you soon.
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:25:56
Yes, it does. That’s why I’m so grateful to be recognized. At the same time, enough really feels like enough. I love how you ALWAYS find the bright side!
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:23:14
Thanks for the suggestions, Totsy. I have them all showcased on my side bar. Don’t know what else to do…
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:21:29
Shonnie, I’ve refused nicely TWICE now. I’m hoping it will work this time! Thanks for your kind words and empathy. I certainly understand what you’re going through. Copy and paste my post if it makes it easier for you.
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:12:28
All this award business is very difficult for me. I really hope it ends with this go-round…
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:11:24
Actually, I checked your side bar. I was going to give you an award and say you already had one. 😉
Feb 09, 2012 @ 09:09:42
I have this reputation that is very demanding, you know… 😉
Feb 09, 2012 @ 05:47:53
Thank you Lorna! And congratulations to you! You even made an entertaining blog out of ‘thanks but…”
Feb 08, 2012 @ 20:19:22
Why doesn’t anybody ever check the side bars??? Oy vey. Congrats Lorna and thanks for NOT sending any my way. Seriously, thanks!
Feb 08, 2012 @ 20:04:28
Way to pack ’em in, Lorna! Congrats. Embrace it all. Receiving can be harder than picking your 7choicess – the very act of it causes knots in my stomach. Hope you can do it with ease!! 🙂
Feb 08, 2012 @ 17:32:55
Lorna, I have to work on a post just like this one.
My problem stems from being dislexic, thus finding keeping up with who nomiated me and what the heck I am supposed to do with it.
I feel so honored and overwhelmed with good feelings for having been nominated, and then I am overwhelmed by actually accepting the awards. Thanks for sharing this post so I don’t feel completely alone out here with my slightly different struggles, but thanks just the same. 😀
By the way I think you are one very amazing woman to have refused so nicely.
Feb 08, 2012 @ 17:18:33
You’re loaded down over here with awards. You’ll have to buy more space from WordPress to hold them all. I’m gonna create an award called Here’s to Lorna Who’s Got All the Awards Already to help you out. Put it in your sidebar or like me, create a page that people always miss through no fault of their own (I need to be better at marketing).
Though, congrats to you. I shall visit some of these fine blogs in your circle.
Thanks for sharing.
Feb 08, 2012 @ 16:40:47
Tawriffic Lorna … this augers well for the sale of your memoirs, esp the ABC – Awesome blog content – don’t y’think? cheers catchul8r molly
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:53:13
Thanks, Jacqueline. You certainly know the feeling!
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:52:47
I’ll show you mine if you show me yours… 😉
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:51:09
Thank you for remembering that post where I asked for no more awards. Many people don’t remember or didn’t read that post. It’s tough to balance gratitude with sanity!
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:49:33
Thanks so much, Julie!
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:49:16
Oh, Kourtney, please don’t ever apologize for your wounderful intentions! I’m trying to find a balance between being very grateful for the recognition of my peers and declining more awards. I really think they need to go to newer bloggers who need the exposure.
I remember the elation I felt when I got my first Versatile Blogger Award about 1 week into my blogging experience. I was walking on air! That’s the feeling I’d like others to have. That’s all… 🙂
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:04:11
Lorna, I’m sorry for regiving you the Versatile Blogger Award. I did notice you already had it in the sidebar, but I had grouped it with the Very Inspiring Blogger award when I was regifting them. 🙂
I do find your blog both versatile and inspiring. Your stories of your mom and your childhood were heart tearing, but you infused the perfect hint of humor and self-deprecation. They lingered with me and remind me how much people can endure and overcome.
Feb 08, 2012 @ 10:00:47
Congratulations, Lorna – all very well-deserved awards 🙂
Feb 08, 2012 @ 09:26:44
More awards Lorna 🙂 i remember you saying you did not want any more, you should move into a page like i have and leave the two Darkglobe ones in the sidebar.
Anyway, onwards to more awards 🙂
Feb 08, 2012 @ 09:17:44
I have nominated you for the “Way Too Go, You’re Great Award”…….I just need your credit card, social security #, and the rest of your personal information in order for you to win :-p
Feb 08, 2012 @ 09:01:18
Congratulations to you, well deserved.
Feb 08, 2012 @ 08:25:39
Of course!
Feb 08, 2012 @ 07:51:31
Thank you so much Lorna, much appreciated!
