I just came from Margie’s blog where she is hosting her weekly photo challenge. This week, she’s chosen the topic of sunsets. I’m a sucker for a sunset. What’s not to love?
- Each sunset is unique.
- Peace descends at the end of the day.
- Light fades ever so softly into ever darkening shadows.
- I can feel the Earth and its creatures breathe a collective cleansing breath.

Thanks so much. I’m in love with this one, too–being a Moon Child. I felt inspired the whole time I was doing it and each time I look at it. It’s hung right above my bed.

Lorna, this is beautiful! I’ve always wanted to quilt but just never managed the time to learn. Love the colors.

Lol! I’ll take that compliment and try to be modest about it… π

So glad you came back and commented. Hearing what another genius/artist thinks of my work is always interesting to me. π

You know, it wasn’t until I retired from college teaching that I “discovered” my creative side. I really didn’t want to leave my teaching career behind at such an early age, but it really was a blessing in disguise (like all life changes).

I love this art piece, Lorna–it’s gorgeous–what a wonderful creation. You are such a multi-talented person–entertaining in so many ways. π

This is gorgeous, Lorna! I’m hopeless at needlecrafts, but love looking at ones that have obviously had a lot of creativity put into them. (Sorry about the awkward sentence… I’m sleepy!) I looked at this earlier on today and just had to come back and comment. π

Aw. Thanks, Tilly. Makes me want to get back to my sewing room…
Oct 06, 2011 @ 16:07:30
Thanks so much. I love landscape quilts. They’re small and I can finish them in a few days.
Oct 06, 2011 @ 16:06:37
I will. You too–and post it so we all can enjoy the fruits of your artistic soul.

Thanks for the info. I apprecaite your taking the time. I handpaint silk fabric but don’t like the sewing part. My friend does that for me. Usually, I frame them and give them as gifts.
The cooler weather always bring out creativity. I think it’s because we’re indoors more. Get your brushes out and begin. ~~ : – )
Lovely work,
Izzy

You are one talented woman, that is a beautiful quilted sunset!
Thanks for pointing us to Margie’s blog.

That is gorgeous.

First, let me say your quilt is beautiful. Visually pleasing and soothing, tranquil like a … sunset.
I thought I’d take a stab at doing this too, so I linked back here and to Margie’s blog with this article:

Gosh that is impressive.

How long does it take from start to finish for this artform, Lorna? The quilted landscape has a flow, rhythm and I love the colours and blends, cheers catchul8r molly

Thanks for sharing that, Jacqueline. I look at my art work and get a hankering to create more.
Oct 05, 2011 @ 15:26:09
I do love your artwork, very beautiful.
I recall someone talking about sunsets as being ‘the world closing the day’ – I thought that was a lovely way of putting in. We ended the day here with a red sky tonight – very beautiful too. Thanks for sharing your inspirational work.

Yes, Sandy, I believe I will in the very near future. But then I’ll have to create some new pieces. Such a dilemma! π

Beautiful sunset, Izzy–I hopped over and commented.
As for my quilted art, yes, it’s mine. I machine quilted the whole things. I tried painting first, but found the needle and foot got all yucked up, so I switched to highlighting with the oil sitcks after I was finished with the machine quilting. The downside of that approach is that the oil “takes to” the thread differently than the fabric, so I have to be careful and do a lot of blending. It takes a great deal of experimenting to see what works best. Perhaps if I let the oil paint dry for a few days before I quilted, I would avoid the needle/foot problem, but I’m always too anxious to complete the piece. I’m curious about how it will turn out.
I haven’t created anything “painterly” in a while, but cool weather is approaching and that’s when I get a hankering to quilt. You may be seeing fewer stories a week and more art pieces…who knows?

Oh, I don’t know about that. I admire such beautiful photography. And you’re very welcome for pointing people in your direction! π

I like your line: “Peace descends at the end of the day.” Awesome pic.
Oct 05, 2011 @ 11:53:30
Thanks so much for pointing to my blog about sunsets, but my sunsets pale in comparison to your quilting!
Oct 05, 2011 @ 11:28:47
Lorna,
Is this one of your handpainted quilted fabric art ?
It is fabulous. Are these handstitched?
Do you paint the fabric than quilt ?
I love art and love to know how people put their artwork together.
This one is GREAT …!!!
Toodles,
Izzy

Bea-u-ti-ful! Love the fabric choices, especially the roling ground in the forefront. I have fabric like that! You should share more of this.
