I’ve joined a Peace Blogfest sponsored by Aimee at A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Woman. I am copying some of those details below (thanks Aimee). I found it via Ms. Mouse Cleans House.
Inspired by Ms. Mouse’s beautiful “stained glass” quilt art piece, I decided to celebrate Peace Through Art by showing you one of my fabric art creations. It’s called Once in a Blue Moon. I feel so calm each time I look at it. The moodiness of parts of the sky are tempered with lightness and hopeful hues, just like I see the world. Storms are always passing; beauty is always present.
In 1999, Jeremy Gilley founded the film project Peace One Day to document his efforts in creating an annual day of ceasefire and nonviolence with a fixed calendar date. In 2001, Peace One Day achieved its objective when the United Nations unanimously adopted the International Day of Peace 21 September.
Aimee’s Peace Blogfest schedule is:
Monday 19 September 2011 – Peace Through Art
Post something you have created that represents what peace means to you. This can be a video, something you drew, something you wrote (poetry, short story, etc.), a song you wrote and recorded, a picture of something you made, anything! Be creative!
Tuesday 20 September 2011 – Peace Through Tolerance and Non-Violence
Despite religious, racial, socioeconomic, or personal differences, everyone deserves respect. I know this can be a touchy subject for some people, so there are many blogging options for this day. You can do one or more of the following: discuss ways we can overcome discrimination and stop violence, describe an organization that you support that helps other people, tell about a time that you helped someone and what you learned, describe a time when someone helped you through a rough time and how it changed you, or tell of an experience in which you or someone you know was discriminated against and how that shaped your view on peace. Share your experiences!
Wednesday 21 September 2011 (Peace Day) – Peace Through Connection
Bringing people together in celebration should be the goal for this day! How do you connect with other people? How do you interact with people around you in a peaceful way? What unites people? Think about this one, and be truthful. And remember, peaceful actions don’t stop when Peace Day is over! What can YOU DO to be peaceful and to continue spread the word about peace? What inspires you to be peaceful?

Trust me, I understand how busy people get. No need for appologizies…
You’re amazing in that you keep up with so many blogs and do such amazing work, too!

Lorna, I’m astounded by the beauty of your quilt here. I have a friend’s hanging on my wall, and I’d love to have yours too! Anyway, if you’re interested, here’s her blog:

Unfortunately, this is an over-the-top week for me. I would have loved to participate. As a retired artist and artful jewelry designer, this would have been fun to do. Wish I had known about it sooner; maybe, next time. I like to participate in good causes.
Your fabric art is splendid. You will have to post more of them with descriptions so as to know your technique.
Lovely,
Isadora

Thanks so much, Totsy Mae. Indeed, I consider your comment high praise because I respect your artistic eye and soul!

And you used the word “only” to describe what you have to offer, Phil? Me thinks you are selling yourself a bit short! That photo was beautiful. Photography is NOT something I ever got the hang of but admire greatly. We all have our unique talents; don’t underestimate yours.
I see why you find a sense of peace when communing with that magical place. And you captured it so well. I love it! 🙂

Thanks, Sandy–a real complement coming from a kindred quilter. By and by, I’ll showcase more of my work. I was just pre-worrying about what the heck I’m going to blog about when I finally finish telling my life story (although I still have a long way to go)! Maybe my fabric art will be a good place to direct my blog, plus other off-shoot stories…

Oh good. It seems like a worthy cause!

Interesting stuff. Will give this a go with my wee blog today.

Lorna —
Your fabric art is beautiful beyond words. I want to know and see more. I can understand the peaceful feeling when viewing it. All I can say is WOW!

I like your fabric artwork very much!
If only I were talented artistically. The closest thing I can offer is some photography of Nature – a lakefront and wildlife preserve located within walking distance of my house. It’s my favorite place to start off my day, and it’s peacefulness and tranquility is a beauty that so many never take the time to notice in the midst of their busy lives. Going there always puts me in a peaceful state of mind.

Very good work, you have there, Lorna. The subdued colors are calming and the fact that it’s about nature adds to that. Landscapes can really take you to a place and time to meditate.
