THIS IS AN ALERT FROM THE EMERGENCY BLOGGER-GOING-CRAZY INTERNATIONAL WARNING SYSTEM. THIS IS NOT A TEST. THIS IS AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY
Have you noticed that I don’t comment to each and every one of your posts? Are you miffed when I don’t answer questions you may have posed to me on your comments section to something I astutely observed on your post I did comment on?
Before you think I’m being lazy or simply ignoring you, please consider the possibility that I am a technological duffus OR that the Cyber-Overlords are gunning for me.
No matter what I do to check and recheck settings, email alerts that you wonderful bloggers that I follow have: 1. posted something new or: 2. commented on a comment I made on your post WILL NOT reach my email.
I have been forced to seek out your new posts daily (well, as daily as I can manage) and rarely go back to your older posts to see if you responded to my comments because, hey, Scrappy needs to be walked and I have to shower at least once a week.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM? Here’s what I’ve done to no avail:
- checked 50 times to make sure I’m supposed to be alerted instantly via email when you post something new
- created and activated a virgin Hotmail account just for blog alerts in case I was maxing out my dizzylorna account
- reviewed my settings in my dashboard, which I think only apply to my, posts, not yours
- prayed
- contacted WordPress Help, who seem to be vacationing in an area where the internet is permanently down
Any and all suggestions to resolve my problem, or even tales of similar problems will be greatly appreciated. Until this gets fixed (gosh, I’m such an optimist), I’ll do my best to let you know I’m reading your posts if you’ll forgive my “silent treatment” on comment threads and posts I happen to miss.

I even tried linking myself directly into my computer to configure this problem out. All I got out of that experiment was a really bad hat-hair, horrible bags around my eyes, and oddly puffy lips. Kids, don't try this at home. The Cyber-Brain Melder 500 has been recalled due to the hat-hair issue anyway.
THIS IS WAS AN ALERT FROM THE EMERGENCY BLOGGER-GOING-CRAZY INTERNATIONAL WARNING SYSTEM. THIS IS WAS NOT A TEST. THIS WS AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY
Thank you…

Thanks so much. I hope you come back again and enjoy what you read!

I just want to tell you that I am just newbie to weblog and absolutely liked you’re page. Very likely I’m going to bookmark your site . You certainly have fantastic posts. Thank you for sharing your blog site.
Sep 22, 2011 @ 11:55:05
Thanks, that’s what I’m doing now. The tech people at WordPress are working with me to figure this out. I just know it would be easier to have alerts delivered to me via email so I could go right to my subscribers’ posts and comments without missing anything I don’t want to miss. Did I mention I lean toward the compulsive side of abnormal? 😉
Sep 22, 2011 @ 06:52:58
If it’s a problem you are still having, here are two possible workarounds:
For WordPress blogs, click ‘follow’ on the bar at the top and then click Me -> Blogs I Follow to read them.
For non-Wordpress blogs, subscribe by email or RSS… these should still work.
Good luck!
Sep 19, 2011 @ 17:30:27
Good to know. I am not alone in the techno-blipped-out-blog-o-sphere. 🙂
Sep 19, 2011 @ 17:27:04
I see what you mean. Don’t worry. I actually feel better that others have problems, too. Thanks for commenting, where ever the comments appear!
Sep 19, 2011 @ 17:25:40
You’re funny. That’s what I say!
Sep 19, 2011 @ 17:13:09
Ah, techno-misery, it’s befriending a lot of us, it seems…
Sep 19, 2011 @ 14:07:31
Mine doesn’t either so whatever canoe you are rowing in, trust me, we wear the same moccasins, LOL I just try to keep up best I can and if I fail someone in any way, I hope they will tell me because I truly can get so lost in reading all the great blogs on here that I simply LOSE time, place, sense and forget that I also need to say something once in a while or at least post something on my own blog, LOL Somehow, it all works out. I think… hahaha Therein may lie my real problem… thinking… lol… or believing myself… lol. Thank you kindly for the much needed giggles, you Crazy Chick. I love the way you “emergency” LOL LOL
Sep 19, 2011 @ 10:32:06
Well, just to prove to you how technically useless I am, the comment I have just made was meant for the post about you getting a job with some numskull boss. What can I say
Sep 19, 2011 @ 10:28:15
Bosses like the one you describe are one of my pet hates. It is hard to find anything to admire in his conduct, and I have failed
Sep 19, 2011 @ 09:13:50
LOL I have this problem too.
Sep 19, 2011 @ 07:42:57
Well, at least I know I’m not alone…We should deluge the “Friendly Helpers” at WordPress” with our collective difficulties and see if they can fix this seemingly widspread glitch. 😉
Sep 19, 2011 @ 07:40:51
You are so right. I spent more time trying to diagnose this than I would have visiting everyone’s blog and having fun reading and responding to comments!
Sep 19, 2011 @ 00:44:20
I’ve had that problem, too. It seems that the idea of computers making things easier is a way of sucking us in o using these dang computers more; only to have us going around like zombies trying to figure out why we haven”t been able to do what we want to do. It’s a computer controlling us. It is addicting us to see if an answer to a post has been left but it will not let you know just to keep you jones-ing. MMM – Hmmmm – it is a drug. Think about it …!!!!
I just go back and see if a response was left through the bloggers web-site. It’s longer but better than trying to figure it out … and … you get more hits.
Take 2 aspirins and your blaneky to bed …

I’d like to help but I’m worse off than you are I think. I’d almost given up on the WordPress Reader after taking two weeks to figure it out when the change from My Subscriptions was made. My Reader wasn’t working for about a month or I wasn’t doing something right. Luckily most of my readers (the people) come to my blog from their blog page, which shows on my stats page, so I didn’t “forget” their blogs during that time.
Sorry for the lengthy comment. It’s just that I share your pain.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 19:20:47
Thanks. I’ll keep bugging the WordPress people.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 17:23:55
WordPress will eventually reply, but probably by the time they do, your blogger mates will help resolve … apologies no useful tech advice to impart, cheers catchul8r molly
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:49:46
Don’t worry, that one used to trip me up every time, until it didn’t anymore. I got some wonderful advice from someone: Advice, like a vice, is a noun. The other one is the other one. 🙂
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:47:40
Even though I’m a vegan, I checked the Spam folder. Thank god nothing was there.
Never tried the WordPress Reader. I’ll give that a go. Other than that, I’ve been to every place on my end of WordPress that I can go without falling through a rabbit hole and never coming out.
I’ll let you know if the Reader thing works. Thanks for the advice and all the advising. And now I know your clever trick to being such a popular blogger and have such a busy life. You really shouldn’t let all your secrets out, Phil. But something tells me, you didn’t let all your secrets out…;)
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:41:22
I’ll be pestering them 1st thing tomorrow morning!
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:18:56
I was just about to mention this problem to you, Lorna. I never get comment notifications from you. I always receive an email for your new posts but nothing for comments–so yes, thought you weren’t commenting back until I returned to a posting of yours and saw that you have been replying.
Seems like you have tried everything, Lorna. I had a problem recently with my blog and was very pleased that WordPress got right back to me with a response. I would keep trying to reach them.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:08:12
Thanks for letting me know. I’m not sure what I’m going to do because hunting you all down every day takes so much time and I know I’m not getting back to your comments on your blog…:(
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:07:39
Doh! My type A conscience is telling me the spelling is advice, not advise. For while I was advising, it really was me giving advice. And now I’m just confused. Er… never mind.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:06:00
I’m almost reluctant to give advise for fear of appearing like an attention monger, with the expectation that if solved, I should expect you to come over to my blog and constantly comment…
OK, first, have you checked your spam folder for notifications from WordPress? Lots of times, your spam filter picks up these kinds of e-mails and sends it straight to your spam folder for deletion. Next, if it is not there and you do not get any notifications, try using the WordPress Reader. You can get to it by hovering your mouse over the “Me” area along the toolbar with your dashboard. That’s assuming you have Java Scrip enabled. From there you can see Blogs you’ve tagged to follow, although if you are not subscribed, they will not appear there. That can be found under the “Blogs I Follow” option.
If none of that works, don’t sweat it. I’m not worried about reciprocal comments, and I sure hope others don’t keep score as well. I know I comment for fun, and because it takes a lot less work than actually writing a blog entry. See, you do the heavy lifting, and I get to applaud and cheer once in a while. I like that.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 14:02:58
Funny I noticed for a while that I was getting an email notification when you published a new post however if I clicked on blogs I follow yours didn’t come up. This glitch just seems to have sorted itself out today. Good luck getting things fixed with your account.
Sep 18, 2011 @ 12:39:34
Thanks, Androgoth. Techon-misery loves company and, apparently, gets a lot of it! 😉
Sep 18, 2011 @ 12:17:17
Don’t worry about it my friend this is a rather common problem that happens to many in WordPress, indeed there are lots of niggling bits and pieces around these parts that add frustration to bloggeroonity… Like on my Space for instance where I have some friends mentioning that they have to comment with a white font on a white background, and others that have a black font on a black background when trying to add a comment, I mean this dilemma has never happened to me anywhere on WordPress but I have experienced what you are writing about here and it is very annoying.
I guess that we all have some issues from time to time but the main thing to think of is that we all understand, and that there is no problemo… In other words just call by whenever you have the opportunity, or if you are lucky enough to receive an e mail prompt…
Have a wicked rest of weekend now Lorna 🙂
Androgoth Xx

Sorry Harry, either I missed what you said or I’m losing my mind. Can you repeat it?
Sep 18, 2011 @ 12:11:35
I’ve been blogging since June and not ONCE have I been alerted that a new post has been made from a blogger I follow. So I think something is wrong with my WordPress account, my hotmail account, or me. I hope it’s not me!
Thanks for your understanding and supportive comment!
Sep 18, 2011 @ 11:46:09
I haven’t had that problem, but I was having a problem with publishing to Facebook. Whenever I went to write a new post it said I needed to click the link, it would take to FB, then I’d have to hit the ‘allow’ a bunch of times. It always took my to my Dashboard where I followed the road to sharing and it always said I was connected and allowed. I emailed support and haven’t heard back, but the problem mysteriously disappeared a day or two ago. How long has this been going on? Maybe it’s similar to what happened to me. I have no suggestions, I’m sorry :S.
I will say this; I will never be angry with you for not responding! You have way more subscribers/commenters than I do, and even w/o this problem it can be tough to reply to all of them. We do what we can with what time and things are available to us. If people don’t like that, who needs ’em?! I appreciate that you take the time to read my stuff and I enjoy reading yours. I don’t expect comments all the time ^_^.
I hope this gets sorted out quickly. I don’t know what I would do :S.

Hi Lorna me again, did you do what i siad in the post to fix your problem.
