Val, a creative writer and artist and an incredibly generous blogger whose blog is Absurd Old Bird, bestowed upon me the venerated Liebster Award. “The Liebster Award, you say? What is that?” And, more importantly, “How can I get in on that action?”
Very innovative bloggers create their own awards. They are special bloggers who know how to: 1. create their own Official Award images; 2. have the entrepreneurial spirit to create a unique way of recognizing their peers and devising rules around said recognition; 3. feel empowered enough to, like Nike reminds us, “just do it.”
The objective of the award is to bring recognition (translation: visitors/subscribers) to the blogs that are worth a read/view but for some reason don’t seem to get much attention. New Liebster Award winners then “pay it forward” by passing the award on to five other blogs, thus recognizing them. Apparently the award is something of a delightful hot potato–not meant to be coveted, but tossed around to spread the viewership/subscribership heat.
Five blogs with fewer than 200 subscribers are targeted for this award. Since most blogs I visit don’t display the number of subscribers, I’m shooting in the dark. But I’ve been doing that all my life…
Liebster means “beloved” in German. Even though I’m in America, I think it still applies; so I feel honored that Val thinks my blog is so special that she beloves me in German. From what I gather, I’m now supposed to let last year’s abnormally tall Miss America fit a tiara on my over-spray hair, grab my flotilla of long-stemmed red roses and walk gracefully down the runway while smiling and waving with silent joyful tears sparkling in my eyes. No. Wait. Wrong Award Fantasy. Sorry.
These are the blogs and bloggers (among the legions of talented, creative people I’ve come to know in the past 4 months) who I feel are worth visiting, but who may not have as many visitors/subscribers as their hard work and talent deserve:
Word Salad (Derek Berry)
The Cvillean (Big Al)
Serendipity for Molly (Molly)
Diana Douglas (self-evident)
What the Fluffy? (WTF) (O. Leonard)
Up To Random Thoughts (Phil)
Oops, I chose 6. But Val only chose 4, so it all evens out if my pre-school math skills are in tact.

Sure, easy for you, Little Girl. You have all those educational programs, software and calculators. When I was your age, I had Romper Room, coloring books and nothing but my own noodle to memorize complicated mathematical formulae like 4 + 6 = 10 and 10/2 = 5.
So go forth and take a look-see at these fine bloggers. Now they have been dubbed “beloved” in German by me and can choose to toss the potato Lieber Award to other bloggers deserving of recognition.

Now that's one beloved hotsy-totsy tater. Don't be afraid to catch this one, Liebster Award winners!
Again, thanks to Val for beloving my blog and me–we are, after all, one in the same.

I knew you would receive the news of the award in the spirit in which it was given!
Sep 12, 2011 @ 13:17:14
I am a bit late getting around to reading this blog so my apologies. Thanks for the recognition and congrats on your award. I think these “tongue-in-cheek” awards are kind of fun and just another reason to enjoy blogging.
This just validates the “most likely to become a blogger if blogging is ever invented” award from my high school yearbook.

I see your point. The Buddhist in me shuns awards. Thanks for the reminder. I’m a Buddhist with a terrible memory!

Kill the idea … awards just create angst in everyone. I am not a fan of awards. I was a juried artfully designing jeweler for 28 years. The only way to participate in art show was to be juried in. I can’t tell you how many times I would be rejected from an art show and then attend that show I did not get into and see – MMMMM – what is a kind word for junk???? – …AND … I was not in the show exhibiting. Hhhmmmm …..!!!! …. soooo … awards – they aren’t something I really care about. I would much rather have honest opinions and critiques. It is with that, where my growth will flourish.
Namaste, xoxoxo

Not to worry! I did have fun with it, as you can see…:)
Sep 11, 2011 @ 12:19:13
I’m very out of date with my blog reading, Lorna and didn’t spot this til just now, sorry. Glad you’re enjoying the award and have found some people to pass it on to. 🙂
Sep 11, 2011 @ 11:57:23
Thanks, Izzy. I don’t like having to select just a few bloggers. I’m going to make up some kind of award of my own and give it to everyone! How Socialist of me!
Sep 11, 2011 @ 11:53:10
Congratulations and as always so worthy.

Well, the “dizzy” part of Lorna came from my chronic dizziness. I wanted to make fun of my condition, so I created an email with that moniker and it plays on the fact that I’m a natural blonde, too. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I never thought I’d have so much fun, meet so many wonderful souls/writers, and have such success at blogging–having only entered this world a short 4 months ago…
Sep 11, 2011 @ 09:09:50
Not to worry. I need to find a better balance between my life and my blogging. Not that they are separate, but I spend a great deal of time in front of a computer screen reading and writing and not enough time doing other equally wholesome activities (like interacting with loved ones and being creative in other ways).

Rules, my friend are made to be bent if not broken. Go with the spirit of the law, not the letter.
Sep 11, 2011 @ 09:02:10
Thanks!
Sep 11, 2011 @ 06:32:34
Well done on the award, and for pointing out other blgs worth looking at. Always a valued activity
Sep 10, 2011 @ 17:32:14
PS
I post some great writing/artistry I’ve discovered and enjoy on my blog roll every day so in light of that, am I spared having to select just five? I have discovered several new artists I’ll be sharing as soon as I have time to get their links posted. Yes, I am. Spared, that is. I’ve answered myself. That would be just way too difficult for me. There are so many amazing talents out there and I know kindness is the underlying motivation but holy boggled if you force me to do it, LOL (I know you won’t, lol)
Sep 10, 2011 @ 17:30:07
Apolgies Lorna, very preoccupied yesterday, attended a funeral … even forgot my manners Angel — so, Congrats on your Liebster award and thanks for your vote of confidence, after reading your blog, it counts, cheers catchul8r molly

Such entertainment every time I come visit you. This could be addictive but reading your pages is such an uplifting and inspiring experience that I’m thinking we should be busying ourselves creating some “Dizzy Lorna” Awards. Here’s the conundrum: Lorna not so Dizzy. But I get dizzy every time I read her pages… either from laughing or thinking…thinking…thinking… LOL Thanks, original soul sistah, love the way you share! Creative Bloggery is definitely worth exploring and expanding.
Sep 10, 2011 @ 14:15:55
More than 200 subscribers, Molly. So I think you’re well within the rules for selection! Plus you deserve recognition for what you’re doing and the excellence with which you do it!
Sep 10, 2011 @ 14:12:34
Good to know…
Sep 10, 2011 @ 14:11:28
Will do. Thanks for pointing me in the least scary of directions!
Sep 10, 2011 @ 07:59:51
Try looking at the Monster Script as that might give you a chuckle or three? Well it is certainly a tongue-in-cheek posting so give it a go…

Don’t worry Lorna even a Woos, Wuss is welcome on my Space, and when you do call by again just hit the archives there will be, perhaps be something in there to whet your appetite other than a Zombie Feast for the Dead… Unlucky 🙂 lol
Actually I have removed a vast amount of work from My Gothic Realm but I am adding more of a mixed variety now to encourage anyone that isn’t too blood thirsty, I hope that you will find a Script or two that will give you a giggle instead of a deathly fright 😉
Have a wondrously excellent weekend
filled with all the thrills that you enjoy the most 🙂

BIG thanks, Lorna – i have more than 20 subscribers – to accept would be ‘false pretense’ – but will visit the 5 ‘Liebsters’ this week, cheers catchul8r molly
Sep 09, 2011 @ 15:00:42
Oh I’m sure you’ll figure it out. You are a resourceful guy–and a popular one, too!
Sep 09, 2011 @ 14:59:33
Andogoth, you are, indeed, an intriguing guy and I see why your blog is popular, with ar without these kinds of awards. I know others bloggers who feel the same way you do. I wrote my “acceptance speech” rather tongue-in-cheek because, for me as for you, the real fun and reward is writing, reading and commenting.
It’s wonderful to be appreciated for one’s efforts (especially as a Middle Child), I won’t lie–I hardly ever do. And I had much more fun giving it out than receiving it. Funny how gifts work that way!
I’ll be back to your blog. You’re a clever, witty, thoughtful guy. I just have to get past all the blood and reanimated bodies…(can you tell I’m a woos–how do you spell that? I’ve never written that word before?)
Lorna
Sep 09, 2011 @ 14:51:00
You are so welcome. Put on some “shades” and have some fun!
Sep 09, 2011 @ 14:50:01
Thanks! I’m going to come up with some kind of an award that isn’t limited. I feel awful having to select among the great people I interact with and wonderful blogs I read (one in the same).
Sep 09, 2011 @ 13:04:45
Congratulations!
Sep 09, 2011 @ 10:50:52
Thanks for shooting at me in the dark and mentioning my blog. I shall go forth into the potato fields and shoot five more bloggers.
Sep 09, 2011 @ 10:45:31
Well Done on Your Award…
You know I never bother with such things but I do know that there are many around WordPress that follow these awards and offer alternative blogs for viewing, which isn’t such a bad thing at all, indeed it gives other bloggers a chance to glance through different Spaces that perhaps they would never land upon without these awards schemes.
On my travels I see many such Spaces that have limited comments placed on what I see as some unique and most excellent postings but I guess one has to speculate a little and go forth and find different Spaces in which to browse and comment upon, as blogging and commenting is a two way street I think. I mean if one is willing to branch out and find random Spaces to visit then the reward is if someone chooses to return the visit as a result, and for me that is reward enough, that someone made the effort to call into my Space, and so I thank you for doing just that my friend…
I have nothing against anyone following the Awards line but for me personally I am happy to post my Scripts and enjoy the comments from my friends and any passersby that choose to visit, and if just one person likes my work then I have achieved my goal, however the Zombies, Skeletons, Werewolves, Ghouls and Vampires have other ideas as they always like new peeps calling by so that they can add them to the Soup of Wickedness, well only if I let them of course 🙂 lol
Have a great rest of day now and do call by again soon,
not forgetting your Garlic chewing Gum… just in case 🙂

Uh oh… I sure hope I can find five followers quickly… 🙂
Thanks for the recognition, Lorna. I’m flattered.
